Early Season Wildlife and the Captain's Platter

The kings are here! And a bonus Halibut while trolling, plus our limit of Dungeness crab make for a grand day out on the water. Humpback whales have been spotted on every trip out and the Stellar sealion rookery has been very active.

Be prepared to share the 'Koot or any of our local streams with these furry fisherman.  Particularly on the Chilkoot river, please educate yourself on human/bear interactions and how to minimize the disturbance to these 'locals'.  Plenty of photography opportunities with these bears, but please use your telephoto lenses and keep your distance and don't displace them from their feeding activity.  Familiarize yourself with the published rules for the Chilkoot.
wade fishing on the 'Koot river for sockeye.  Be prepared to cross some fairly swift jet currents.  A trick I learned many years ago is to 'load' my rod in the current to act as stabilizer when I don't have a wading staff.
For you birders out there, We saw this Western Tanager right outside our window one morning and Judi grabbed this photo.  It is a fairly rare sighting this far north in SE Ak.
